Caring for the Caregiver
Caring for an elderly relative can be difficult. You don’t have to be living in the same household to experience the stress of watching your loved one’s faculties decline. You may feel overwhelmed ensuring that your relative’s health needs are met, that his or her bills are paid, and that a long–term care facility is comfortable and safe.
Joining a support group for caregivers of seniors may help minimize your stress level. A good group can provide encouragement, relieve your sense of isolation, and help you develop coping skills.
The organizations below have online chat or message boards for caregivers, or can provide you with a list of support groups. You should also contact Eldercare Locator (1–800–677–1116) to locate community senior agencies, which are an excellent source of information about family support groups.
